Concert for Refugees

Sun, 3 Jul 2022
It was a memorable event when just about half the choir were able to participate in a Concert for Refugees on Sunday 3rd July 2022!

We began with a sound check in the large, well-equipped auditorium at ACS International School, Cobham, luxuriating in the spacious stage and easy-climb riser staging.  After a time, we rejoined the other five choirs en masse on the stage for a rehearsal of Tebe Poem, with the hauntingly beautiful violin played by Yehudi Menuhin scholar, Ukrainian Vadym Perig, accompanied on the grand piano by fellow Ukrainian, Svitlana Kosenko.

Doors opened and the 400-strong audience poured in, eager for the musical feast awaiting them. The second choir to perform, we sang our set beautifully, with Hugh masterfully leading us to showcase our talents and skill.  We rejoined the stage, all c200 of us for the finale, Tebe Poem.  It was truly magical.

We're delighted to know that at least £10,000 has been raised, with the final amount to be confirmed once the takings from the raffle and refreshments have been counted.

Many of us commented how lovely it was to be performing with so many other musicians, from different musical genres and focus, summed up by one who said : "Now I have had time to consider Sunday; the whole experience of the Concert for Refugees, and singing with such a merry, relaxed, and kind group under your care, I must write to thank you for all your hard work, belief, and passion. I assure you that the experience, for an old dog like me, was wonderful and has left me feeling uplifted, invigorated, and thirsting for more."  Bravo all!
