Elmbridge Choir's very first Sing Up Saturday proved to be a resounding success, bringing together more than 80 singers for a joyful day of music-making, friendship and fun.

Held as an open "come and sing" workshop, the event welcomed 83 participants, including current members, former members, partners, daughters, friends and some potential future members, who were completely new to Elmbridge Choir. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces singing alongside newcomers, all sharing a love of music in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Under the expert direction of our Musical Director, Hugh Beckwith, singers spent the day learning three contrasting pieces: the beautiful Scottish folk song Loch Lomond, Stevie Wonder's uplifting Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing, and the very appropriate The Music's Always There With You by John Rutter. Hugh's infectious enthusiasm, humour and musical expertise ensured that everyone, whatever their previous choral experience, felt encouraged and inspired throughout the day.

We were also delighted to be joined by Bethy Reeves, whose exceptional skills as accompanist and experienced choral leader added enormously to the day's success. Our sincere thanks go to both Hugh and Bethy for creating such an enjoyable and rewarding musical experience.

Adding to the enjoyment, the glorious summer weather meant everyone could take their lunch outside and enjoy a relaxed picnic together. It was a wonderful opportunity to chat, make new friends and soak up the sunshine before returning for an afternoon of singing.

After a full day of rehearsals, participants performed the three newly learned pieces in the garden at Marney's Village Inn. The audience then enjoyed a relaxed performance of Elmbridge Choir's summer repertoire, making for a perfect summer's evening of music in the sunshine. Choir members celebrated the end of a successful day and the end of another term with a BBQ together in the 'secret garden' at Marney's.

It was an incredibly joyful day of singing, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants has left us excited about the future of Sing Up Saturday. It was encouraging to welcome so many singers, and we hope many of them will return to sing with us again.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make our first Sing Up Saturday such a memorable occasion. We would particularly like to thank the RC Sherriff Trust for offering their support to the event. We look forward to doing it all again!
